Our time forces us to live accelerated lives, marked by a ‘process of acceleration,’ leading to tension, stress, anxiety, and depression. We face constant pressure from new technologies, information flows, and advertising, requiring an unsustainable pace. Not everyone possesses the resilience for such sustained intensity. Our era is also full of fears: new insidious diseases, existential fears, fears for our children, fear of drugs, natural disasters, relationship fears, breakups, and loneliness. Fear leads to anxiety, and anxiety to depression. Untreated depression can escalate into psychotic illnesses.
